Yeovil boxing showdown cancelled

Friday, November 21, 2008, 10:21

The IBE World Heavyweight Championship clash between Mike Tyson's half brother Cliff Couser and Blackpool toughman Dave Clarke has been postponed.

The fight was due to take place at Westlands Leisure Complex in Yeovil on Thursday (27 November).

But because of poor ticket sales, it was called off today (Tuesday).

It is thought that Couser, who resides in Las Vegas, is known to boxing fans as Twin Tyson or Black Rhino, will still visit Yeovil Amateur boxing club this week to talk to the youngsters.

A spokesman for IBE said he was gutted but hoped to reschedule the match early next year.

Couser has also played Tyson in the Golden Globe winning film 'Don King - Only In America' alongside well known Hollywood actor Ving Rhames. He regularly acts as a lookalike for his brother and has featured in numerous commercials over the years.

Like Mike, he stands 5ft 11ins tall, weighs in at around 230lbs. He has boxed some of the best in the business including former world champion Michael Moorer and has knockout victories over former Tyson victim James 'Quick' Tillis, former world title challenger Jorge Luis Gonzalez, and Monte Barrett.

Of his first paid trip to the UK, Couser said: "I can't wait to get to England, I am going to break some bones and I don't want care who gets put in front of me."

Latest figures show six people a week are stabbed to death on the streets of Britain. From next week courts will be able to sentence knife offenders to "community payback" work including picking up litter and cleaning up graffiti while wearing high-visibility jackets. Will this be enough to stem the rise in knife crime?
